Chocolate Crinkles

Method

These cookies are best eaten the day they are baked.

Makes about 3 dozen cookies.

Every year Michelle serves pumpkin pie and this amazing pecan perfection as an offering at her Thanksgiving table and it's always a hit. Of course, she holds a slice back for breakfast the next morning.

First things first. Make your your favorite pastry. Because she loves Fall so much, Michelle likes to decorate the edge with hand-cut leaves. Put the pie pan in the fridge to keep it cool.

Now for the good stuff.....

Put a generous 1 1/2 cups of pecans on a cookie sheet and roast them at 350F for just a few minutes.... you don't want them to brown, but the oils will come out. When you pull them out of the oven cover them with about 1 T. of flour and coat them well. Let them cool down 🙂 (have a glass of wine)

While they are cooling, melt 6 T of butter and turn up the oven to 450F.
Mix 3 lg. eggs, 1/4 tsp. salt, 1/2 c. light brown sugar and 1 c. light corn syrup (most people use dark sugar and syrup -- Michelle thinks that is where hers is different).

Add the butter, 1 tsp. vanilla and the nuts (including the loose flour on the pan). If you like, you can add a couple of T. of bourbon at this point. In anticipation of breakfast pie, Michelle likes to leave the bourbon out.

Turn the oven down to 350F, pour the goo in the pie crust and bake for 40-50 minutes. THEN.... you have pie 😉

While this recipe is for one chicken, which will give you roughly 8 pieces, you can fry up enough chicken to feed 2-20.

The sky's the limit. It's not my place to tell you how much fried chicken you should eat!

On a picnic blanket in the park or by the light of the refrigerator in the dark of night, it’s always good. For a crowd, I like to serve mine up with a bit of potato salad and coleslaw.

STUNNING DESIGNER LOFT  As you approach the ornate sandstone and brick facade of Bleecker Tower with its iconic copper tower, it is already apparent that that this building is anything but ordinary. Built in the late 19th Century to house the Manhattan Savings Institution, this magnificent, monumental building was the site of one of the greatest bank heists of all time by George Leslie, the "King of the Bank Robbers?" and his band of thieves, solidifying a place in NYC lore.  Today, this legendary building has been transformed into a boutique and exclusive cooperative in the heart of NoHo with apartments that echo the grandeur of the building itself. Apartment 2E is perhaps the crown jewel of the building, benefitting from the dramatic, floor-to-ceiling arched windows that encircle the building's 2nd floor with approximately 12 ½ -foot ceilings. The colossal scale of the windows emphasizes the expanse of the loft space while simultaneously articulating the vast living room into more intimate areas with no shortage of uses. With an incredible, open chef's kitchen featuring top of the line stainless steel appliances, including 2 ovens, 2 Fisher & Paykel dishwashers, 2 refrigerators as well as a wine refrigerator, this is a home designed for entertainment and has the capacity to cater elegant dinner or cocktail parties on an impressive scale. The hardwood cabinetry, gorgeous marble counters and center island, as well as the sophisticated finishes make this the perfect blend of beauty and functionality.  The serene master suite showcases a custom dressing room and magnificent, sparkling master bath with radiant heat marble floors, elegant Maestro Picasso soaking tub, decorative wrought iron staircase, standing shower with exquisite mosaic tile and Dorn Bracht fixtures, and La Cava double vanity.  A handsome library lined with bookshelves also features an adjoining media room and is adjacent to a fully renovated 2nd full bathroom. Complete with automated Lutron lighting and muti-zoned Sonos surround sound, new luxurious hardwood floors throughout, this trophy home also includes a powder room and washer/dryer.  This stunning home was reimagined by award-winning interior designer, Nina Serafi. Bleecker Tower features a part-time doorman, beautiful landscaped roofdeck and private storage bins. Located in the heart of NoHo, enjoy fine dining at Balthazar, BondST and Mercer Kitchen, as well as all neighborhood amenities, including Equinox, Soul Cycle, The Bowery Hotel, Crosby Street Hotel, designer shopping and so much more.

I love to serve my crab cakes with baby roasted potatoes and an arugula salad. Here's the recipe for my favorite sriracha mayo.

We asked our expert from St. Gambrinus Beer Shoppe what beer to pair with these babies and we love her choice. A little "Spill the Tea" is a delicious pairing with these crab cakes! Heather says:

"Spill the Tea" is a refreshing India Pale Lager brewed with green tea and citrus peel, which will pair beautifully with crab cakes! The subtle green tea and more prominent citrus peel will bring out the delicate flavor of the crab without overpowering it and the hops will stand up to the Siracha mayo. "Spill the Tea" is collaboration between Jacks Abbey, a Massachusetts brewery that specializes in lagers, and a persona favorite, Finback Brewery from Queens.

On the Street with Paul Zweben at Douglas Elliman
Hello, I am Olivia Epstein, the Zweben Team’s intern for the summer. Most of you have probably already seen me in some of Paul’s famous Instagram videos, but for those who have not, let me introduce myself. I am a twenty year old from Tenafly, New Jersey, a small suburb right over the GW Bridge. I have two brothers; a 23-year-old and a 17-year-old. I am a rising junior at Tulane University in New Orleans, studying communications. Later this summer, I will be traveling to Sydney, Australia to spend four months studying abroad, which I am extremely excited about! I spend my free time hanging out with friends, eating, exercising, and of course, Snapchatting!
At a young age I became fascinated with real estate. My parents attempted selling my house in Tenafly multiple times, and whenever an agent would bring clients to my house, I would follow them around to hear their pitch. Furthermore, when my parents revealed their interest in purchasing a second home in Aspen, Colorado, my Zillow obsession began. I was regularly checking Zillow to see what new homes came on the market and if it fit within my parent’s budget, I would e-mail it to them. I wanted to be the one that found my parents a second home, and that desire still stands today. I am also curious about how the real estate market is doing in general, so I am constantly browsing real estate websites to see what new homes are on the market and how they are priced.
This summer, I was lucky enough to land this amazing internship with Paul and his team. I am finally able to see how everything works from a broker’s perspective, which has given me a new angle on this industry – one that has been essential in determining whether or not I want to pursue real estate as a career post grad. Paul has taught me a lot in the last month that I’ve been with his team, but one of the most important things I have learned so far is that it is extremely important to build good relationships with your clients, so they don’t just think you are in it for the money.
From going to several appointments with Paul, I have learned that relationship building is of the utmost importance in this line of work. On the first day of my internship, Paul brought me to an appointment where he was meeting an Upper West Side client for the first time. His apartment was previously listed with another broker, and Paul thought it was slightly overpriced, something Paul knew he would need to bring up. But before Paul started talking prices, he sat down and got to know his client. They played “Jewish geography” and found mutual connections, talked about what they do for a living and talked about their families. I could tell that having this conversation relaxed his client, but also helped his client gain trust in him and see that aside from being a great broker, Paul is genuinely a good guy and is easy to get along with.
